    Hi sl23,

Thanks for your participation to this forum.
Now, with your explanation, I understand better.

Please can you check the following for me:

    1. Close FileVoyager if it’s running
    2. Find out the related FileVoyager.ini
    3. In the [General] section, find the AllWaysMax value
    4. If the value = 1, so this is the culprit. Set it to 0 (zero), and restart FV.

I’ve seen in my code that it’s 1 by default.
I’ve no access to my dev machine right now, but will verify and fix this asap.

    Hi @Ssemoa,

    Normally it should be restored.
Check that u are using the latest release.
And check that you’re not using the portable release in a restricted folder.

Another update. As of version 16.3.6.0, context menu is the 64 bits menu (when running on 64 bits systems of course).

    Hello Armoric,

You are certainly talking about “descript.ion”, “files.bbs” or even “FILE_ID_DIZ”.
Indeed, even though those mechanisms are relics of the DOS age, their functionality is very useful and there is no modern multiplateform standard that can do the same.

I accept your request. Thank you for your contribution!

Oh, I forgot about the Ability to define another viewer:

The Viewer capability of FileVoyager is tighly coupled with FileVoyager itself.
The Viewer must be able to work in Embedded mode and dialog with FileVoyager through messaging or Inter-Process Communication. On its side, FileVoyager must know how to dialog with it. I prefer not to offer the possibility to choose another viewer.

On the other hand, FileVoyager offers the possibility to define Editors either by default, or by defined file masks. You can define Editors in “Preferences\File Exploration\File Edition”.

When using the keyboard, Editors are launched when pressing F4 on a file.

Hi Cyrgh and welcome to the forum!

A lot of subject in your post so I will try to be well structured 🙂
Note that below, all “FV” refers to “FileVoyager”

    • Some way to hide the Ribbon :
At the top right corner of FV, you can see a small Arrow next to the help icon. That arrow allows you to Expand/Collapse the Ribbon
    • Settings reverted to default when moved to USB :
Have you installed the Portable version? in portable version, the settings are in the FV’s folder, while with Setup version, the settings are in the User folder.
    • Disable auto update :
As of version 16.1.29.0, you can disable the auto update in the Preferences\General page.
    • Customize file panel column headers :
That’s something I’m thinking about. Right now, I have some pending choices to make about the way I will implement it. I need to investigate further. Suggestion recorded!
    • Disable preview when hovering files :
It must be easily implemented. Suggestion accepted!
    • File panel updates slowly even on a fast pc :
That’s a difficult point. Every PC behaves differently.
    • No in-line command prompt :
A feature that I want to implement since a long time. If I want to fulfill the OFM paradigm, the command line is a must have. Now there is a big difference in implementing a cmd line that is independent and a cmd line that can influence the behaviour of the file lists. Something I must elicit. Suggestion recorded!
    • keyboard shortcuts cannot be defined :
I am also a kind of nerdy-keyboard-fanatic. In FV, I try to always attribute shortcuts to commands. Not sure I’m disciplined enough…
Providing the ability to customize the shortcuts is something I can foresee. Suggestion recorded.
    • Tab ‘visualization’ has a misleading title. ‘Preview’ is better :
I agree with you! Suggestion accepted!

    Thank you for your contribution!

    Hello sunemesys,

    Very interesting input.
We are inline! Except your feature Nr. 2, all the others were already listed in the “To do’s” page http://www.filevoyager.com/doc/todos/.
I had never thought about the Nr. 2. Nice suggestion indeed.
I will do my best to implement those requests.

    Thank you!

in reply to: [Resolved] – Sort Folder doesn’t work #675

    Hi Azazel,
Sorry for this late answer. This forum engine doesn’t send alerts…

To sort the folders you have to activate the option: In the Ribbon toolbar at top of the application window, select the “View” tab. Then somewhere in the middle you’ll see a “Sort Folders” check box. Check it and voila.

    Hi,
First of all, SORRY for the late answer. I don’t know what’s wrong with this forum but I haven’t been alerted about a new post >:D
In a normal situation, FileVoyager is supposed to remember last positions and paths. I don’t understand what’s wrong… Do you use the setup version or a portable version grabbed on the web?

Avoid the portable version you find on the web. Since yesterday, a portable version I’ve crafted myself is available on the website at http://www.filevoyager.com/download/.

About the message boxes, I simply command Windows to display a message. I will check further if I can control it’s positionning.

And thank you for the kind words!

Just an update. As of version 15.5.7.0, file operations are also supported on the System32 folder

in reply to: [Resolved] – Syntaxe Highlighting doesn’t work #682

As of release 15.4.5.0, syntax highlighting is working fine again!

in reply to: [Resolved] – operations from a virtual folder #686

    Good news,
It was a tricky one but I finally managed to resolve the issue.
The April release will contain the fix

    😀

in reply to: 64-bit support #655

    Hello hassenbensobahr,

Be welcome as the first member of this board.
Unfortunately, I still use a version of Delphi that compile only for 32 bits.

When running on 64bits systems, FileVoyager supports listing of the real system32 folder, and is not virtualized via SysWOW64.
But no operations on that folder are supported (so no copy, move, rename, or whatever) and no view with FileVoyager’s internal Viewer.
Actions on an item in this folder are only possible through the Shell context menu of the item (the menu that is displayed when right clicking an item).

I don’t want to invest time and energy with full support of the system32 folder in 32bits because the simplest solution would be to compile to x64.

    Regards
